In honour of Indian Arrival Day, being celebrated today in Trinidad & Tobago, here is singer Sundar Popo (1943-2000) and his red convertible, taken near his home in Monkey Town, Barrackpore.
I took this photo in 1995 while working on the documentary "Chutney in Yuh Soca".

This is such a cool image. Between the names, that rather vibrant shirt and that pose he looks like he should be a character in a novel!

Sundar Popo was da man. That photo above sums it all. This boy single handedly invented Chutney Music. It took me 25 years to realize that he sang the original version of “Nana, Nani”.
Fazia, Sundar died on November 4, 2000. It will be 4 years this week that he died of kidney failure because dialysis is very expensive in countries outside the USA.

It will be 7 years this year that my grandpa passed away. He was and is a great man. he talks to me all the time. So you should be careful with what you say. He does still have a family that loves him.
