Not to dwell on Guyana, but today this country (which I'll admit I have a huge soft spot for) celebrates the 39th anniversary of its independence from Britain (thanks to Ryan Naraine for the reminder).
A photograph commemorating a country's independence should probably feature more than one person, but this one does hint at Guyana's incredible natural wealth.
(Taken in September 2003, during a four-hour visit to Mahdia.)
