St. George's Cathedral (Georgetown, Guyana)

St. George’s Anglican Cathedral in Georgetown, Guyana, one of the tallest free-standing wooden buildings in the world, photographed by C*POP under moody pink skies just after 5:30pm on April 4, 2005.

The very comprehensive St. George’s web site offers photos of the interior, a virtual tour and other goodies.

I am a Guyanese living in Canada and I have regrets not entering this most wonderful and cherished building even though I was a regular visitor in Georgetown. I was too taken up in my personal life and material gains than to venture in so that is one of my regrets in life. Whenever, I do return home for a visit with God’s grace – I am making a genuine promise to go there even for once and take my children. I was very saddened when I heard that the Sacred heart church was burnt.

Hy My name is Steve and I’m brasilian I’m trirty years old, I’m very curious about visiting Guyanna just because my father Mr. Daniel Augustus Johnson was born at Berbice a small city I guess at Guyanna, I don’t know much abou my father’s life when he was young and living at there around 1950, the only thing I know is that I still have same brothers and uncles that I’ve never seen or even heard about them after my father had died fifteen years ago, I do konw it can be quite a miracle to find anyone from my father’s family at Guyanna althought I’ll try to visit Guyanna especialy Berbice next year when I’ll finish my first graduation here in Brasil.

I am a Guyanese living in Brooklyn NY for over thirty years, and whenever I visit Guyana, I always photograph that historical structure.
Unfortunately I have never visited the inside of the church, maybe on my next vist I will do so.
