I received this request today from UK reader/listener Ian Hodgson. If you can help him, please drop me a line and I’ll forward the info:
I am trying to locate a piece of 'calypso' music. I believe it is entitled 'Moke Calypso' and it is alegedly by a group called the Barbadians, though I can find no record of their existence. The opening line and chorus, starts:
"Drivin down the road,
in my Minimoke,
Is a sight to see.
Beebeep as blow my horn,
I'm a Mini Moke jun_ky.'
If you can possibly assist, or direct me to somebody who can, I'd be most grateful.
Kindest regards,
Ian Hodgson,
UK
The CaribbeanCricket.com crew is on the case:

Thanks, Ryan!
I’d be surprised if that crew couldn’t find the answer.
Someone e-mailed with a suggestion that it might be “Beautiful Barbados” by the Merrymen.

Many thanks for the suggestion folks.

Unfortunately it does not appear to have been recorded by the Merrymen. It is certainly much more the typical ‘calypso’ sound. Or at least, what we less learned folk in the UK think of as ‘calypso’.
