CFR is back! And what better way to celebrate my return to podcasting than by paying a visit to cut+clear productions, headquarters of 3canal, CFR’s “house band”.
This time the topic isn’t the band but rather band member Wendell Manwarren, who was in Germany a few weeks ago appearing in a soon-to-be-released television documentary which aims to “capture the vibe” in the FIFA World Cup 2006 host country ahead of the arrival of the Soca Warriors (Trinidad & Tobago’s football team) and the legions of Trini fans in June. Wendell shares with us the highlights of his whirlwind tour (seven cities in 2 1/2 weeks!) and explains why there’s now a pink rhino covered in blue devils gracing the streets of Dortmund. We also play two tracks from 3canal Vibes, the group’s 2006 album, which you can purchase online at CDBaby.

So nice to get up after a 3 AM breastfeeding break for youngest daughter and find a new podcast!! And how exciting the 6 year old son will be to hear Rise played on it – one of his favourite songs. Thank you for broadcasting again. For those of us completely out of all kinds of loops that exist within the normal world, having a location like this to keep us informed – and informed in an incredibly intelligent and lucid fashion – is just great!
Looking forward to hearing lots more in the very near future. Let me know how I can help or encourage to keep them coming.

Pingback by Of Warrior Rhinos and Commemorative Coins - FIFA World Cup 2006 - Trinidad and Tobago World Cup Team Blog 04.25.06 @ 12:31 pm[...] Stacy-Marie Ishmael responds to a FIFA news story expressing surprise that the Trinidad & Tobago World Cup team has a white member, with a reminder that it’s important to “militate against stereotypes wherever possible”. She also points to some of the commemorative items being produced as tributes to the team, and links to Caribbean Free Radio’s latest podcast, which focuses on what host country Germany is expecting of the Caribbean visitors. Pingback by Global Voices Online » Blog Archive » Trinidad & Tobago: World Cup football news 04.26.06 @ 12:49 pmI cannot wait for Trinidad and Tobago’s onslaught on Germany. I have a feeling something good is going to happen, God knows the country needs it.
I’ll be wining there too with the blue devils and 3 Canal!
Gosh, if my podcasts are causing people to choke on food, then maybe I’d better retire! As it is I’m already being sued by a group of amphibians….
Comment by Georgia 04.27.06 @ 6:00 pmWhat a coincidence, a german lad looking for fresh stuff is “randomly” downloading your CFR podcast at odeo… and what’s the topic? Worldcup in Germany! I really enjoyed the show and appreciated the statements. It’s true, we are totally excited about hosting so many people from all over the world… and we are happy if we could prove some more preconcepts wrong. And, in fact, you should let us know more about you! We are always open for some new spices and flavours. So, I guess I’ll be checkin’ CFR more often. Ah, and “Rise” is a killer tune!!
All the best,
-matthias
Trinidad and Tobago did not win a game or score a goal but they still left their mark on the FIFA World Cup finals and proved they deserved their place in Germany. The two-island nation entertained many with stirring performances against Sweden, taking a point from their opening game, and then ruffled England’s feathers before succumbing to two late goals.
Comment by Caribbean 06.21.06 @ 12:27 pmsocawarriors.net says “National team captain Dwight Yorke will join a Trinidad and Tobago senior team which includes only seven players who were part of the squad at the 2006 World Cup, for an international friendly against Japan in Tokyo on August 9″
