Following on the heels of his fine eyewitness account of the event, Nicholas Laughlin this afternoon posts his analysis of the local press response to the “Death March“, the anti-crime rally which took place in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Saturday 22 October. Both are wonderful examples of how a blog can enrich the conversation around a subject.
Caribbean Free Photo also has a few images of the event and I’ve uploaded some as well to my Flickr photostream but cannot post any more until PayPal stops being so suspicious about all those nefarious logins from a Trinidad & Tobago IP address and I can get myself a Flickr PRO account (if anybody cares to buy me one, please follow this link).
What’s strange, however, is that at 4:45pm on Sunday 23 October, neither a Flickr nor a Technorati search yields much coverage on the event besides Nicholas’s and CFR’s (notable exceptions here, here and here). There were hundreds of people with digital cameras out there. Are we as a nation that un-wired? I’m hoping that folks are either too tired today to blog or upload, haven’t tagged their images properly or perhaps figured the time would be better spent contemplating how they/we might build on whatever it was that was set in motion on Saturday (which I agree it would). I know Taran Rampersad, who is sure to have something to say, has had no Internet access for the past few days, so I’m assuming we’ll hear from him once his service is restored.
And CFR’s podcast about the event is coming soon. I think.

Hmm. Well, I’m finally back online. I’ve literally been sitting here waiting for the little DSL light to come on, which shows that there would be a signal and handshake in progress.
The Deathmarch. Well. I should write an entry on that. I didn’t make it to the DeathMarch, but I did talk to a lot of people about it and… there’s some interesting things that have been said about it. There will be a longer entry, I think, on crime related to the Deathmarch… it may be time to put the cards on the table in a public forum.
errr , where is the mp3 file ?
