Flickr PRO account, anyone?

Posted by Georgia on October 23, 2005 at 6:39 am.

A rogue plugin caused me to upload a bunch of massive photos by mistake, eating up the 20MB quota on my Flickr account in one fell swoop and preventing me from uploading any more pics of yesterday’s “Death March“. So I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to a PRO account. PayPal, however, is getting all anal about security and keeps asking me to confirm whether those suspect logins from a computer with a Trinidad and Tobago IP address are legit, so I’m caught in an infinite loop of password-changing which prevents me from actually being able to log in.

I could be mistaken, but my understanding is that new PRO account holders get two free accounts to give away. Would anybody happen to have an extra one they wouldn’t mine donating to CFR (and Caribbean Free Photo)? It would be most appreciated.

Update: Apparently the free account offer ended in April. I’m going to check now to see whether PayPal has returned to their senses, but if one of my well-heeled listeners wishes to sponsor the Flickr account, a gift account can be purchased through this link in the name of “caribbeanfreephoto“. I believe you have to be a Flickr member in order to do this, though you can also log in with your Yahoo username.

    From the Flickr web site:
“Flickr members who became Pro prior to April 18, 2005 were given two invites for 1 Year Pro accounts.”

So not just anyone who is has a Flickr Pro account has a free account to give away.

See, I would do it if I could find a link on flickr to send you one of the gift accounts. I got a pro account within the last couple months and I haven’t seen anything saying I can give away two pro accounts, although I’ve HEARD of this before. So if you know the link, please email me and you know a sister will hook you up.

    Hi Ndelamiko,

Thanks for the generous offer, but as Ron Lauzon pointed out in the previous comment, the free account offer ended in April!

    Best,

Why wouldn’t you use .mac instead? You get a lot more for the money and I noted that you use a powerbook. The integration with iphoto etc is excellent. And no I don’t work for Apple but I use .mac a lot.
