Taran Rampersad has posted a valuable listing of Caribbean blogs on his Knowprose.com blog.
July was a month of shortish shows and #27 is no exception. This episode includes musings on yesterday’s power outage | a thank you to new listeners | a reminder to buy t-shirts | thoughts on subscribing via Odeo | congratulations to the Trinidad & Tobago Computer Society on being the producers of the Caribbean’s second podcast (site|feed) | CFR has a drunken fan (or at least a fan who writes emails while inebriated) | Delphine’s blog | a special message from 3Canal re: their Emancipation Concert.

New York resident John Batson models his CFR Stencil Tee during a visit to the Motherland this past weekend.
You too can be the proud owner of a CFR t-shirt (PodFrog or Stencil design) by clicking here.
One of CFR’s most active listeners, Donald Turnbull , and his wife Diana, have started the Faithworks Podcast, “a nondenominational podcast radio show ministry, whose purpose is to inspire, motivate, and encourage others in the hope of Christ through inspirational sermonettes, interviews, and Caribbean Christian music.”
Donald is originally from St. Thomas and Diana is from Puerto Rico. The premier edition of the show was produced in Chicago, where they live, but Donald tells me they will occasionally be doing shows from the Caribbean as well.
Back in May I circulated this BBC news report among a few interested friends. It concerns Guyanese adventurer Duane de Freitas, who lives in the Guyanese interior and uses a satellite internet connection to communicate with the outside world.
As Skype was one of the tools de Freitas mentioned using, one of Skype’s bloggers tracked him down and did this interview.

Dev Anand Teelucksingh sent this link to MegaTrack, “an OSS application that tracks Atlantic and eastern Pacific tropical storms on a map. Requires Java to run and installs available for Windows, Linux and MacOS X. Gets the storm locations from NOAA’s NHC website.”
Download MegaTrack here.
Caribbean Free Photo has some interesting new stuff as well, including a photo of a West Indian Travel Permit from the 1960s.

All the explosions and galeforce winds we’ve been having around here lately seem to have distracted me from the fact that Odeo, which I said in CFR #26 wasn’t yet open to the general public, went live several days ago–check it out.
They’re still technically in beta and seem to be quite responsive to suggestions, so by all means tell them what you think. And here’s CFR’s Odeo page, which you can use to subscribe or listen.
Take a look as well at the comments for CFR #23 for Dev Anand Teelucksingh’s correction to my statement that the local press’s online editions were slow to report the news of the explosion (though I did retract my comment re: The Trinidad Express in the podcast itself).

Seems it’s all about Skype these days on CFR. With Tropical Storm Emily headed our way this morning, I get on the phone with my buddy (and favourite armchair weatherman/surfer) Walt Lovelace to discuss the weather.
Walt recommends the WeatherCarib web site for all your hurricane info. The Pod Weather podcast is also carrying updates.

Seems new podcasts have been added to iTunes, because I just did a search in the podcast directory for the word “caribbean”, and for the first time got a result. The result, however, was Dead Pirates’ Society, a podcast of far more recent vintage than CFR.
Can anyone blame me for feeling a bit just a bit paranoid?
UPDATE – 8:49pm: Minutes after posting this I did another search for “caribbean” in the iTunes directory just to make sure I wasn’t being too paranoid. Now Dead Pirates’ Society is no longer coming up, though they are still listed in the directory. So it’s either that DPS removed the keyword “caribbean” from their feed within the last few minutes, or Apple is screwing around with something as we speak. Or I could simply be going insane. . . . Which do you think? Email me with your votes.
And speaking of votes, it’s a new month, so the votes return to zero at Podcast Alley. I’ve now made it even easier by putting a direct voting link in the sidebar–just enter your e-mail address and hit the button.
UPDATE – 8:56pm: Oh, oh, now DPS is back. . . .
