Okay, I have neither the time nor the know-how right now to solve the problem with Internet Explorer, so I’ve reverted to the old-look WordPress theme. Which I prefer anyway: the new-look theme was cleaner, it’s true, but to me it did not reflect the chaotic nature of life in this region–and in particular the zoo called Trinidad–where I happen make my home.
Does this sound like a cop-out? Should I make the effort and learn how to code a site properly so it works in all browsers? Anybody care to help?
But still get Firefox.
I don’t think it’s a cop out
Agreed–anyone who is still using IE at this point deserves to be punished. Don’t lose any sleep over this, it looks fine on Firefox and Safari.
If the newer template uses the latest version of the CSS standard, there’s nothing that can be done at present for inter-browser compatibility.
Not all the features of the W3C are implemented in the various browsers, most notably IE, even though it is so widely used. I think Opera has the most support for such features, followed by Mozilla.
The reason why the older template works is that it uses the earlier CSS version or pure HTML. To reach a wider audience, I guess you’re stuck with being “retrograde”, unfortunately. I won’t advise adding complications like scripting either.
I’ve heard similar about my own template on IE. And all I have to say about that is, if you’re using IE you need to wake up, and only then can you come and browse the site. Plus I learned that if people would just maximize their browses problem would be solved. Maybe not the case here, but I just want to lash out against browser zombies.
I have been using Firefox and Thunderbird for several months because of the vulnerability of Explorer and Outlook Express to attack from malicious software and recommend both of them.
